Mediterranean civilization controlled significant amounts of territory in Europe for many years

Lived in and ruled what is now France and the surrounding area

Goths
Major Germanic tribe

Huns
Led for awhile by the famous Attila

The Lombards
The Italian "invaders"

Ostrogoths
Another major Germanic tribe

Vandals
Germanic tribe who conquered Africa and then moved north

Visigoths
Early tribes who helped bring down the Roman Empire

The Dark Ages
Many centuries of time after the fall of the Roman Empire

Byzantine Empire
Eastern Roman Empire that came into its own near the end of Western rule

King Arthur
Historical and/or legendary leader who
continues to intrigue

Silk Road
Brought goods to and from Europe and Asia

Vikings
Nordic explorers and settlers who played a large part in the growth of Europe
