D-Day
The date was June 6, 1944. The place was Normandy, France. The objective was for the Allied forces to establish a beachhead on part of Hitler's "Fortress Europe," in order to start turning back the German tide of war. D-Day was the landing date. One of the bloodiest days of the war, it nonetheless was a success for the Allies.
